Mask up, people.

I read in the news today that California (the state I live in) just surpassed New York for highest confirmed Covid cases. I think we all thought that things were going to slow down with this virus as summer came to a close, but as it seems we all can’t pull our own weight, numbers continue to rise. I think my favorite metaphor for controlling the spread of Covid so far, has been “the group project”.

I have always hated a group project. I was always the person who ended up doing all of the work or picking up the parts that didn’t get done. Living in the United States during the pandemic has felt exactly like a group project, except those of us who are putting in the work can’t cover for those who don’t.

Thank you Ashely Narine, I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Wearing a mask seems like such a simple thing to me. We’ve all heard the statistics for the protection masks provide. We’ve all seen the graphics that show spray from coughing and sneezing and how a mask works to block air-born droplets. The bottom line is that you cannot convince someone to be a good citizen, to care about someone other than themselves. It has to come from within. Have you ever heard about the shopping cart theory? If not, check it out, it’s worth reading.

All of that being said, teachers and educational staff are going back to work. Lots of people are going back to work and we are going to need masks! If our kiddos can’t see our smiling faces, or if the masks seem kind of scary, why not make them fun! In my newest instructional video, I’ll teach you how to make a quick and easy pleated fabric face mask that you can jazz, dazzle, bling, flare, or funk up how every your little heart desires. (May I be so bold as to suggest mini tassels!?!) Enjoy, and I would love to see your fabulous creations! Stay safe, my friends.
